Le Jeudi <\/strong>7 mai 2026<\/strong>, l’amphith\u00e9\u00e2tre Michel LOUIS du Campus Universitaire de Schoelcher a \u00e9t\u00e9 le th\u00e9\u00e2tre d’un moment exceptionnel : la premi\u00e8re \u00e9dition du Concours d’\u00c9loquence Acad\u00e9mique des Lyc\u00e9es Professionnels<\/strong>. Et quelle \u00e9dition !<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pendant quatre heures intenses, une vingtaine de lyc\u00e9ens ont pris la parole pour nous offrir bien plus qu’une performance oratoire : un v\u00e9ritable manifeste de talent, de courage et de fiert\u00e9<\/strong>. Une matin\u00e9e qui restera grav\u00e9e dans les m\u00e9moires<\/p>\n\n\n\n

D\u00e8s 8h30, l’amphith\u00e9\u00e2tre s’est rempli progressivement. Parents \u00e9mus, professeurs fiers, camarades solidaires, officiels attentifs : 280 personnes r\u00e9unies pour c\u00e9l\u00e9brer l’\u00e9loquence de nos jeunes des lyc\u00e9es professionnels. L’atmosph\u00e8re \u00e9tait \u00e9lectrique, charg\u00e9e d’une \u00e9motion palpable. Et ce que nous avons entendu a d\u00e9pass\u00e9 toutes nos esp\u00e9rances.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

On Thursday, May 7, 2026, the Michel LOUIS Auditorium at the Schoelcher University Campus became the stage for an exceptional moment: the very first edition of the Academic Public Speaking Contest for Vocational High Schools. And what an edition it was!<\/strong>For four intense hours, around twenty high school students took the floor to offer us far more than an oratory performance: a true manifesto of talent, courage, and pride. A morning that will remain etched in our memories. Starting at 8:30 a.m., the auditorium gradually filled. Emotional parents, proud teachers, supportive classmates, attentive officials\u2014280 people gathered to celebrate the eloquence of our vocational high school students<\/strong>. The atmosphere was electric, charged with palpable emotion. And what we heard exceeded all expectations.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Welcome to this moment which, I dare say, is far more than a competition. Welcome to a founding act. Because what we are inaugurating this morning \u2014 this first inter\u2013vocational high school eloquence contest \u2014 was not born out of chance. It was born out of conviction. Out of determination, even. The determination of a woman who, as early as July 2024, came to my door with an idea, a spark in her eyes, and a certainty anchored deep within her: that our students had things to say, and that they deserved a stage worthy of their voices. That woman is Mrs. Bernadine Brival<\/strong>. And if we are gathered here today, it is because she never gave up. Because between the idea and the contest, there were months of invisible work, hours stolen from evenings and weekends, obstacles overcome with that quiet tenacity that defines her. May she be sincerely thanked \u2014 and with her, Mrs. Alain, Mrs. L\u00e9vy, Mrs. Vigon, Mrs. Coco, and all those who joined this adventure and carried it all the way to this morning. I am proud. Deeply proud.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Proud that Lyc\u00e9e L\u00e9opold Bissol, alongside the University of the Antilles and the Rectorate, has been at the origin of such an ambitious project. A project that places the voice at the center \u2014 the French voice, the Creole voice \u2014 as a vehicle for expression, reflection, and cultural pride. Because yes, French and Creole are not two opposing languages: they are two wings of the same flight. Two languages of culture, empowerment, and openness to the world.This contest is exactly that. It is the art of thinking out loud. It is self-confidence built word after word. It is critical thinking sharpened, creativity blossoming, arguments hitting their mark. And it is proof that vocational education does not only train skilled hands \u2014 it also shapes free minds and voices that matter. I would like to warmly acknowledge all our partners, who believed in this project and generously supported it: Amicale Zanmi Bissol, the Lions Club, Comabat, the Bourse Aliz\u00e9s, Madiana, Les Jeux de Sabine, La Savane des Esclaves, Watabwi, the Zenoki driving school, and the associations Eloquentia, AMBA, and Les 300 Noms. Each of you has helped make this day a reality, and we are sincerely grateful.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

A very special mention goes to Mrs. Monrapha<\/strong> and the company Pro Services<\/strong>, who designed and crafted the trophies that will be awarded this morning. You created these trophies with care; the students, for their part, will have to earn them with their words. My thanks also go to the distinguished guests who honor us with their presence \u2014 your attention to what will unfold here today is, in itself, a form of recognition. And finally, thank you to the partner high schools, their principals, their teachers, and all the staff who supported their students all the way to this stage. You have done far more than pedagogical work: you have told these young people you are worth it. And now, allow me to address you directly \u2014 you, the students. You accepted to put yourselves out there. To step onto a stage. To speak before unfamiliar eyes, with your convictions, your emotions, your sensitivity. That takes courage \u2014 a courage many adults do not have. So, even before you utter a single word this morning: congratulations.And I have no doubt that your performances will surprise us. Move us. Perhaps even unsettle us a little \u2014 and that is exactly as it should be.I will end with the words of a teacher from the organizing team, words that beautifully capture the spirit of this contest:<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Sur le th\u00e8me \u00ab La force des mots pour promouvoir les langues cr\u00e9ole et fran\u00e7aise \u00bb, nos jeunes orateurs ont d\u00e9ploy\u00e9 une richesse linguistique impressionnante<\/strong>. Certains ont choisi le fran\u00e7ais pour la rigueur de leur argumentation, d’autres le cr\u00e9ole pour l’authenticit\u00e9 de leur t\u00e9moignage, d’autres encore ont navigu\u00e9 entre les deux langues avec une aisance remarquable. Ce qui a frapp\u00e9 le jury et le public ? L’authenticit\u00e9<\/strong>. Pas de discours convenus, pas de langue de bois. Des histoires vraies, des parcours sinc\u00e8res, des r\u00eaves exprim\u00e9s sans<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe Power of Words to Promote the Creole and French Languages\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the theme \u201cThe Power of Words to Promote the Creole and French Languages,\u201d<\/strong> our young speakers showcased an impressive linguistic richness. Some chose French for the precision and rigor of their argumentation, others chose Creole for the authenticity of their testimony, and still others navigated between both languages with remarkable ease.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

What struck the jury and the audience? Authenticity.<\/strong> No rehearsed speeches, no empty rhetoric. Real stories, sincere journeys, dreams expressed without filters.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Ce qui s’est pass\u00e9 dans cet amphith\u00e9\u00e2tre, c’est une prise de conscience collective<\/strong>. Nous avons d\u00e9couvert \u2013 ou red\u00e9couvert \u2013 que nos lyc\u00e9es professionnels regorgent de talents insoup\u00e7onn\u00e9s. Des jeunes capables d’argumenter, de convaincre, d’\u00e9mouvoir. Des jeunes qui ma\u00eetrisent l’art de la rh\u00e9torique aussi bien que leurs gestes techniques. Entre deux prestations, les animations culturelles ont sublim\u00e9 l’\u00e9v\u00e9nement. Tout concourait \u00e0 faire de cette matin\u00e9e une c\u00e9l\u00e9bration de notre identit\u00e9 martiniquaise<\/strong>.Voir leurs yeux briller en recevant leur dipl\u00f4me, entendre les applaudissements nourris du public, observer l’\u00e9motion des parents : voil\u00e0 ce qui fait la r\u00e9ussite d’un tel \u00e9v\u00e9nement. Ce n’est pas le classement qui compte, c’est le chemin parcouru<\/strong> par chacun de ces jeunes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What happened in that auditorium was a collective awakening. We discovered \u2014 or rediscovered \u2014 that our vocational high schools are full of unsuspected talent. Young people capable of arguing, convincing, and moving an audience. Young people who master the art of rhetoric just as well as their technical skills<\/em>. Between the speeches, the cultural performances elevated the event even further. Everything contributed to making this morning a celebration of our Martinican identity. Seeing their eyes shine as they received their diploma, hearing the warm applause from the audience, witnessing the emotion of the parents \u2014 that is what makes an event like this truly successful. It is not the ranking that matters, but the journey each of these young people has taken.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Les comp\u00e9tences qui feront la diff\u00e9rence demain<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Au-del\u00e0 de l’aspect comp\u00e9titif, ce concours a permis \u00e0 nos lyc\u00e9ens de d\u00e9velopper des comp\u00e9tences transversales cruciales<\/strong> : prise de parole en public, gestion du stress, structuration de la pens\u00e9e, capacit\u00e9 \u00e0 convaincre. Des atouts qui leur serviront toute leur vie, dans leur m\u00e9tier comme dans leur vie citoyenne.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Un \u00e9lectricien qui sait pr\u00e9senter son devis avec clart\u00e9 et conviction. Une esth\u00e9ticienne capable de rassurer et de conseiller sa cliente. Un cuisinier qui d\u00e9fend sa vision de la gastronomie cr\u00e9ole devant des investisseurs. Ces comp\u00e9tences oratoires ne sont pas accessoires : elles sont essentielles<\/strong> dans le monde professionnel d’aujourd’hui.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Un rendez-vous \u00e0 p\u00e9renniser<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Cette premi\u00e8re \u00e9dition a pos\u00e9 les fondations d’un \u00e9v\u00e9nement appel\u00e9 \u00e0 devenir incontournable<\/strong> dans le paysage \u00e9ducatif martiniquais. L’engouement du public, l’implication des \u00e9quipes p\u00e9dagogiques, le soutien des partenaires institutionnels : tous les ingr\u00e9dients sont r\u00e9unis pour faire de ce concours un rendez-vous annuel attendu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

D\u00e8s l’ann\u00e9e prochaine, d’autres lyc\u00e9es professionnels rejoindront l’aventure. D’autres jeunes talents monteront sur sc\u00e8ne. D’autres voix s’\u00e9l\u00e8veront pour dire la force, la beaut\u00e9, la richesse de nos parcours professionnels.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Changer le regard sur les lyc\u00e9es professionnels<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Si ce concours avait une mission, ce serait celle-ci : changer le regard<\/strong> que porte la soci\u00e9t\u00e9 sur les lyc\u00e9es professionnels. Montrer que l’excellence n’a pas de fili\u00e8re. Prouver que nos jeunes en voie professionnelle ont autant de talent, d’intelligence, de potentiel que n’importe quel autre \u00e9l\u00e8ve.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mission accomplie. Les spectateurs pr\u00e9sents dans l’amphith\u00e9\u00e2tre sont repartis avec une certitude : nos lyc\u00e9es professionnels sont des lieux d’excellence, nos lyc\u00e9ens professionnels sont des talents \u00e0 c\u00e9l\u00e9brer, et leur voix m\u00e9rite d’\u00eatre entendue bien au-del\u00e0 des murs de leurs \u00e9tablissements.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Skills That Will Make a Difference Tomorrow :<\/strong>Beyond the competitive aspect, this contest allowed our students to develop crucial cross\u2011disciplinary skills: public speaking, stress management, structured thinking, and the ability to persuade. These are assets that will serve them throughout their lives, both in their profession and as citizens. An electrician who can present a quote with clarity and conviction. A beautician capable of reassuring and advising her client. A chef defending his vision of Creole gastronomy before investors. These speaking skills are not optional \u2014 they are essential in today\u2019s professional world.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

\n

An Event to Preserve :<\/strong>This first edition laid the foundations for an event destined to become a key moment in Martinique\u2019s educational landscape. The enthusiasm of the audience, the commitment of the teaching teams, and the support of institutional partners \u2014 all the ingredients are in place to make this contest a highly anticipated annual event.As early as next year, more vocational high schools will join the adventure. More young talents will take the stage. More voices will rise to express the strength, beauty, and richness of our vocational pathways. Changing the Perception of Vocational High Schools :<\/strong>If this contest had one mission, it would be this: to change society\u2019s perception of vocational high schools. To show that excellence has no single pathway. To prove that our vocational students have just as much talent, intelligence, and potential as any other student. <\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
