En \u00e9cho au 8 mars, Journ\u00e9e internationale des droits des femmes, l’\u00e9quipe d’Arts Plastiques mettra\u00a0 \u00e0 l’honneur, un mois entier, la cr\u00e9ation au f\u00e9minin ! Forc\u00e9ment partielle et partiale, une s\u00e9lection d’articles, de\u00a0portraits, analyses d\u2019\u0153uvres, de vid\u00e9os, vous sera r\u00e9guli\u00e8rement propos\u00e9e.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

L’initiative est destin\u00e9e autant aux \u00e9l\u00e8ves d’Arts Plastiques pour renforcer et \u00e9largir\u00a0leurs connaissances, qu’aux \u00e9l\u00e8ves soucieux d’exercer\u00a0leur compr\u00e9hension\u00a0en langue anglaise (pour certains des articles), et \u00e0 l’ensemble de la communaut\u00e9\u00a0\u00e9ducative pour le plaisir de la (re)d\u00e9couverte\u00a0de ces talents uniques en leur genre.\u00a0<\/div>\n

\"\"Les questions d\u2019identit\u00e9 raciale, de classes sociales et de genre sont au c\u0153ur de l\u2019\u0153uvre d\u2019Ellen Gallagher, qui se d\u00e9cline en peintures, dessins, collages, et plus r\u00e9cemment en film installations. \n \u00ab\u00a0<\/em>Repetition and revision are central to Ellen Gallagher’s paintings, collages, and films. From afar, Gallagher’s work often appears abstract and minimal, but upon closer inspection details reveal \"\"complex narratives that borrow from maritime history, science fiction, popular culture, and the experiences of African Americans. Although the work has often been interpreted as an examination of race, Gallagher also suggests a more formal reading with respect to materials, processes, and formal structures.\u00a0\u00bb<\/em>

\u00ab\u00a0In 1986 Ellen Gallagher spent a semester aboard an oceanographic research vessel examining the migratory patterns of pteropods \u2013 microscopic wing-footed snails, and drawing them. In a series of watercolours she recalls these studies of natural history (\u00ab\u00a0Coral <\/span>\"\"<\/span><\/span><\/em>Cities\u00a0\u00bb, 2007). The people of ‘Drexciya’ represent the main inhabitants of this series. Drexciya is a mythic black Atlantis at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean founded by pregnant African women who leapt or were thrown from slave ships during the Middle Passage and gave birth to offspring capable of breathing underwater. Gallgher populates her canvases with women protected by Afro wigs made of vibrant sea creatures and marine flora; women with flowing coral hairs; and jellyfish-like figures with African faces.<\/em>\u00ab\u00a0<\/span>
